How to Be a Swimming Instructor

Extensive swimming experience is not required for a swimming teacher job, as training is provided. Typically to get started in this role, no previous certifications or experience are required, and training is normally offered for certain courses, including CPR.  Key requirements can include:

  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, crouch or move around for up to 5 hours in the water
  • Ability to lift, hold, and/or move equipment or small child up to 50 pounds
  • Minimum 2 years of high school - must be at least 15 years or older
